Look back at July with ARNY

Despite the very disappointing weather in July, with many records being set for high rainfall in contrast to the extremely high temperatures in parts of mainland Europe, it was another busy month for ARNY.

The high level of interest in the club continued in July and we welcomed 9 members which is a record number for a single month, and too many to name individually here, but we welcome them all and look forward to seeing them at training and/or at the various social events over the next few months. We have now welcomed a total of 31 members year to date which is another record for the club.

Two of the new members joined us following their attendance at the Demo Day held at Barrie Robson’s, the York BMW dealership, at the beginning of the month. Barrie invited us along to support the day where there was the opportunity to have a demo ride on most of the BMW bike range as well as having the chance to go for a taster ride with one of the ARNY Tutor team. It was a very busy day with the rain holding off for the majority. It was great to see some previous, and existing, ARNY members as well as many new faces. We all very much appreciated Barrie’s hospitality, and bacon butties, and we all enjoyed a very successful day for everybody.

Over the years we have had a quite a lot of requests for some training on slow riding skills and we were very grateful to Advanced Tutor Phill Bates for organising an event in the

middle of the month. Some may say appropriately taking the place of the Wednesday “Wobble” for the month, Phill organised two courses running one after the other in the evening. Both courses were fully booked and very much appreciated with a lot being learnt by all who attended. Thanks go to Phill for the organisation and coaching.

Many ARNY members have been posting on Facebook of the courses, and other adventures, they have been undertaking. It is always good to hear from other members as to what they have been doing and their views of courses they have attended and what they have learnt.

Training continued as normal throughout the month despite the inclement weather with many huddling under the awnings at Strawberry Fields at times to avoid getting too wet. The final training session of the month was one of the busiest of the year with 7 Tutors training with 8 Associates. Year to date the 16 current Tutors have conducted 120 training sessions, taster rides and alike for Associates and Post Test Members. Just a reminder to please indicate your intention to come along to training on the ARNY Summer Calendar if possible so that we have a view of Tutor numbers required on a Saturday morning. Also if you would like to train outside of Saturday morning, please put a message on the group WhatsApp and a Tutor will respond if they are available.

The Sunday Social Ride at the end of the month was excellently hosted by Bev Green who took us all on a great ride taking in the Four Peaks. The rain held off for most of the day and we had the opportunity to take in some great roads, mega sausage rolls, cakes and finishing off with some great ice cream. Thanks go to Bev for the organisation and to all of those who came along to enjoy the day.

We continue to hope for a bit more sunshine now we are supposed to be in Summer!!!

Until next time….
