Look Back at August

All of the recent Look Back’s have started with the comment that the month was a “another very busy month for ARNY” and August was no exception! The month saw us hold 32 training sessions involving 16 Associates and involving all bar one of the Tutor team! We welcome another three new members, Matt, William and Chris and all three have already shown their faces at ARNY events which is great to see.
Whilst it has been requested before, just a reminder to put a YES in the box next to your name if you intend to train on a Saturday morning. Whilst we all realise that plans can change it helps if this can be done before the Friday morning so that the Tutor team can get organised as best as possible to meet the needs for the Saturday morning. If you have any difficulty accessing the Attendance Spreadsheet, please just send a message to Dave Reeve or Steve Potts and they will put your name down on your behalf.
At the beginning of the month Denise Noha and Dave Thomson represented ARNY at the Scarborough Fire Station Open Day. These events are a good opportunity to spread the word about what we do to a wider audience and the efforts to represent ARNY at these events is always appreciated.

The Wednesday Wobble this month was a ride from north of York to the Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge led by Denise Noha with Andy Hildred taking the role as tale end Charlie. It was a very well attended event with 15 bikes snaking their way over the North York Moors to end up at the Lion Inn for some great pub grub. The fires which had started on the North York Moors did nothing to detract from a very enjoyable evening for everyone in fantastic weather.
The social event in the middle of the month, organised by Phill Bates was a trip down the river Ouse in York with fish and chips to aid the enjoyment. A good crowd met up for a drink beforehand and then spent a lovely evening enjoying the sights of York from the river. A select few then carried on the drinking once back on shore to round off an excellent evening.

During the month, Phill was again busy getting the wheels in motion for the 2025 ARNY Christmas event. This is something that has proved very difficult to organise in the past and whilst it is early to be talking about Christmas, there is no doubt that an event like this doesn’t happen without some good up front planning. After a survey and poll to decide on the date and venue the most popular turned out to be the Ambiente Tapas on Fossgate York on December 13th. More information will follow on how to put your name down to confirm attendance closer to the time. Well done Phill for managing to get a Xmas event organised, something we have struggled to do over the last few years.

The Sunday social at the end of the month was led by Paul Stead ending up at the Village Tearoom in Eppleby. The weather was kind and a great ride with some overcast skies but thankfully no rain ended up with a home-made corned beef pie being thoroughly enjoyed by most at the café. Unfortunately, primarily due to poor health, this will be Paul’s last Social ride lead as he has decided to step down from Tutoring. We would all like to thank Paul for all his efforts, and time, as a Tutor over the years and wish him all the very best for the future. Paul has been a real asset to the Tutor Team and he will be missed.
In summary August was a very typical, and another very busy and successful month at ARNY, with lots of training, a Wednesday Wobble, a mid month social event and a Sunday Social ride to end! Thanks to all who came along and to those who did the organising as always.
Until next time…..
