Look Back at Apr and May

As the riding season proper got started it has been a busy couple of months for all at ARNY.  The weather has been somewhat changeable but there have been some busy training sessions and social events.  We have welcomed four new members and wish them all the best in their training and look forward to seeing them at the social events on the calendar too.

We do have an unusually large number of new members who have joined up but have not managed to get along to start their training yet.  Just as a reminder, whilst there is always training starting from Strawberry Fields on Saturday mornings, many of the Tutors are available during the week who are available to train at other times.  If this is of interest please just put a post on the members WhatsApp group and a Tutor will respond if available.  Alternatively, please feel free to contact myself at secretary@arny.org.uk and I will be happy to contact the Tutor group to arrange something.  If you have any other concerns with respect to your training please just get in touch and we will help in any way we can.

The summer training schedule is now well underway with all of the training, post test and social rides posted.  Please continue to indicate your intention to come along as it helps with the organisation and helps us to try and match Tutor numbers to Associates for training on Saturdays.  The addition of the selection of “training” or “social” for post-test members, following feedback from the recent member survey, is working well and we have noticed an increase in post test members taking up the opportunity to train, primarily prior to re-tests.

April saw us hold our usual ARNY Open Day.  The weather was a bit kinder to us this year but it seemed to be a fairly quiet day on the roads and, whilst we did not get as much interest and attendance as we did last year, the Tutors who came along enjoyed the chance to have a coffee and chat.  The website continues to be the primary route for people to find out about us, but we will continue to look at other opportunities to spread the message as to what we do and how we do it.

There have been two Wednesday Wobbles over the period but unfortunately the May Sunday Social ride had to be cancelled due to the weather.  Keep an eye out for future social rides that will be listed on the attendance spreadsheet and advertised on Facebook, WhatsApp and the website.  Social rides are open to all paid up ARNY members and you are more than welcome to being pillions along.  We are all hoping the weather is a bit kinder for future rides.

May saw the Tutors go away to Wales for the Tutor Training weekend.  All those that were able to attend thoroughly enjoyed the chance to catch up with each other and go through what was a busy agenda.  The Tutors all benefit from sharing experience, thoughts and knowledge with one of the aims being to ensure we are as consistent as possible in the way we train.

We circulated the results of the recent ARNY member survey in May to provide feedback to those who kindly took the time to respond.  We have already made a few changes as a result of the feedback.  If you have any suggestions or ideas, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

The Firebike team continues to grow and now have two bikes to spread the word.  We continue to support with training, and you may have seen posts by ARNY member Ian Speight, in MCN and elsewhere, about his trips riding the Firebike as part of the team.  The Firebike and North Yorks Police were also present for an event at Strawberry Fields which made it a busy, but great, day alongside our normal training.

As we start summer proper, we are all looking forward to some warm and sunny riding conditions to support training and the social events.

Until next time….
