My Story

With over three decades of continuous motorcycling experience, my passion for riding began at an early age, inspired by my father’s enthusiasm for bikes. I got my first road bike, a Honda MBX50 at the age of 16, and at 17 years of age, I passed my full motorcycle test, progressing on to a Yamaha RD350 LC. Since then, I’ve owned more than 40 motorcycles, each contributing to a deep and broad understanding of the motorcycling world.

At 19, I became the youngest CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) Instructor in the UK at the time, a role I held for nearly a decade. My commitment to rider education and road safety evolved further when I joined the team at ARNY (Advanced Riders North Yorkshire), combining both a personal passion and professional purpose.

As a serving firefighter with over 30 years service, I currently lead North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s FireBike Team, a public safety initiative aimed at reducing motorcycle-related incidents. ARNY has been instrumental in supporting this initiative by tutoring the teams’ riders, who are each required to achieve a RoSPA Gold standard prior to riding the FireBike.

Since earning my RoSPA Gold in 2022, I’ve continued to advance my skills, achieving a Gold standard in the British Motorcycle Federation’s Blue Ribbon Award and qualifying as a Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Enhanced Rider Scheme Tutor. Through my professional role, I’ve also attained membership in the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) by exemption.

I remain committed to improving road safety, mentoring fellow riders, and promoting advanced riding standards through both my professional work and personal riding journey.
