My Story
I got into motorcycling many years ago, primarily to commute on a daily basis from Selby to Leeds and back. I passed my test on a 'Honda Super Dream CB250N' in November 1979 on a cold, damp and icy morning! About five years later, work commitments and life in general meant that motorcycling had to take a back seat. Little did I know the break from motorcycling was going to last for thirty seven years, however, travelling on two wheels has been a lifelong experience as I have covered many, many miles on bicycles.
Needless to say once you’re a motorcyclist, the yearning to get back on a motorcycle, is never far from one's thoughts! My wife and daughter suspected I was hankering after a motorcycle for a number of years, they would often see me looking at all the two wheeled machines parked up in places we visited on our holidays.
I finally got the “OK” to get another bike with the proviso that I must do some training with a qualified trainer. After completing some one on one training, and obtaining 'DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme’ certificate and the 'BMF Blue Riband Advanced Rider’ awards, I joined ‘ARNY’ which gave me the opportunity to be prompted, guided and cajoled by the tutors you see on this page towards obtaining my 'RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test'. Some time after passing my test, I was asked if I was interested in training to be a Tutor. I accepted the challenge and as you can see I made it to this web page.
My late return to motorcycling has been a very rewarding experience obtaining Advanced Riding training / knowledge / skills / confidence and of course let's not forget new friends, who just like myself, consider advanced rider training a good thing to keep on doing! A bucket list motorcycling dream for me was achieved in 2024, when I did a SOLO tour in to Scandinavia to the west coast of Norway and back, great roads passing through fantastic scenery.
The journey continues…
