Look back at June

June saw us get back to business as usual with training, in all respects, resulting in a very busy month. The weather was kind to us with a very dry start to the month, and good temperatures throughout, all of which helped to encourage everyone out on their bikes for a variety of reasons!

There were 18 training sessions involving 8 Associates throughout the month and there was also some training sessions for Tutors with the focus on the use of communications. June saw us make an organisational announcement with Ian Speight stepping down from his role as Training Officer and the Advanced Tutor Group taking over this responsibility.

Several of the Advanced Tutors were involved in the organisation and delivery of the Tutors Training weekend which was held over the weekend of Saturday June 19th and was based at The Motorist Hub in Sherburn in Elmet. The team there made us very welcome and it was a perfect setting for the Friday session and our end point for Saturday training and wrap up session.

The training weekend was somewhat different from the normal format, due in some part to the ongoing restrictions, but was no less successful despite the change. The weekend included some classroom sessions, involving some valuable and interesting discussions around the consistency of our approach to training, the European Goals for Driver Education and some practical discussions around the use of the Associate Training Handbooks. There was a specific focus on the use of communications for training sessions including some guidance and help with getting different Bluetooth equipment working together. This was aimed at helping Tutors become more familiar with how to get comms working with Associates on Saturday mornings. As the weekend was organised around a normal training session on the Saturday morning, there was an immediate opportunity to put the training into practice – which proved to be highly successful. Once the instructions were followed, there were a lot of surprised smiles as bluetooth comms were established! The role out of this information, including further training for Tutors as to the most effective way to use communications, will now continue to ensure all of the Tutor team are covered, including those that were unable to make the training weekend.

There was a lot of social activity throughout the month too with various ride-outs, the details of which were shared on the usual channels as well as an ARNY Social ride organised by Simon Wilson towards the end of the month which was well received as always. Look out for details of future rides, which are generally at the end of the month.

So a very busy and productive month for ARNY and we now look to more good weather and riding in July.

Until next time....
