Look back at March
For obvious reasons March did not turn out to be the month we had all expected or hoped for. The month started pretty much as normal but quickly changed as the events surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic began to unfold. Despite only having a couple of weeks activity at the start of the month there were 11 training sessions involving 6 Associates.
Prior to the lockdown Paul S became the latest addition to the Tutor team after completing the selection process. Paul joined ARNY as an associate, passed his test with a Gold and then decided to “give something back” to the group. Paul completed his Tutor theory, passed the test paper, sailed through scenario sessions and impressed whilst being shadowed and assessed. A great achievement and Paul is sure to be an asset to the Tutor team.
The ARNY AGM was held on March 10th at the Ainsty in York. The meeting was well attended and along with the formal agenda items there was a healthy discussion on many matters including the current financial position, and future needs, as well as how the group should attract new members.
All Committee members stood for re-election with the exception of Andy Esmond who stepped down as Treasurer. Andy will continue to be an active member of the group and he was thanked for all of his help and support as Treasurer over the past years. Geoff Hale was elected as the new Treasurer and, in the absence of other nominees, the other Committee members were re-elected.
As events unfolded the group formally announced the approach to be taken as a result of the Government’s and RoSPA’s guidance to Covid-19. This resulted in training being cancelled as of the middle of the month and this will remain the case until the restrictions are lifted. Members of the group are active with the Blood Bikers and some have volunteered as part of the UK wide call for help.
Our planned attendance at the A1 Moto TFest event was delayed as the event was cancelled, as were similar events UK wide, and we look forward to joining the team at A1 Moto when the event takes place.
In view of the current situation the decision was made to suspend ARNY membership renewal fees. These will be re-instated when the group is actively training again.
Whilst the weather will now start to improve everybody is being asked to stay at home in line with the Government guidelines. Plenty of opportunity to clean and polish the bike in preparation for the riding to start again which, for many reasons, we all hope will not be too long!
In the meantime…keep safe.
