Look Back at May
Hello everyone. Well we’re five months into 2017 and May finally brought a slightly quieter month for ARNY. That said, we still gained two more new members; Tony Weatherald and Paul Hartley. Welcome to the group and I look forward to meeting you both soon.
Training wise, eight members still managed a total of 12 training rides between them and on 14th May tutor Jeff Terry led a group of eight bikes out into The Dales for a sunny Sunday social ride. The route saw them leaving York and taking in ice creams at Brymore Ice Cream Parlour and onto Hawes for lunch. Looking at the pictures and comments on our FaceBook page it seems everyone had a good time.
On 22nd May our group secretary and tutor, Richard Falls, took his IAM Masters test. This is the IAM's highest qualification and Richard not only passed but passed with a Distinction; a great achievement. Well done Richard.
ARNY were also at the Palace! On 25th May four members of our group, tutors Tony Brunskill, Phill Bates and Jeff Terry along with member Andy Holohan, joined other RoSPA members from around the country at Buckingham Palace to celebrate 100 years of the charity. HM The Queen is RoSPA's patron and she was ably represented by Prince Andrew and his daughter Princess Eugenie. Photos done, cucumber sandwiches eaten and by all accounts a great experience.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, 26th-28th May, eight of our 11 tutors attended a training weekend in the Scottish Borders. This involved splitting into small groups and assessing each other’s riding, fault finding and various discussion topics as well as a written test paper thrown in for good measure! This is the second year in a row we have run these weekends and they give all the tutors a great opportunity to have their riding skills and abilities assessed by their peer group. What’s even more commendable is that these weekends are funded totally by the individual tutors with no subsidy from group funds.
Finally, back to our group secretary Richard Falls. Having passed his IAM Masters earlier in the month, he took his 3 year RoSPA retest on 30th and passed successfully. Congratulations again.
That just about rounds up May at ARNY. Ride safe and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
