Look Back at January

Despite the mild weather over the New Year period things quickly changed which resulted in a lack of training opportunities in January. The cold weather, particularly early in the morning, meant that training had to be cancelled due to icy conditions. Topcliffe took the prize for recording the UK’s record low temperature of -8C at the beginning of the month.

Although there was a lack of training there has been quite a lot of activity within the group as we make plans for 2022 which we all hope will see a return to normal levels of riding. Whilst training was cancelled on 22nd January, after a prolonged stay, lots of chatting and several coffees, in the Strawberry Fields Café the temperature increased such that a social ride was possible with a group taking a rideout to the NY500 Café near Pickering.

There was a group committee meeting in the middle of the month which was held in person for the first time for a while. It was a good opportunity to get most of the committee together to have a good discussion around plans for the coming year. We are planning to get back to a more active social calendar this year and it was also decided that training destination locations will be planned, and communicated out, for the summer training period so everyone knows where the end point will be for each weekend.

It was agreed that there will be an ARNY Open Day to be held on April 9th. All will be welcome and it will also be an opportunity for potential new members to come along and meet the team and get an idea of what ARNY does and offers. We will also offer Back to Riding sessions around this weekend which proved to be popular last year.

It was agreed that the ARNY Annual General Meeting will be held on the 17th March, keep your eyes open for more information through the usual channels. All of the Committee positions are up for re-election at the AGM so anybody interested in taking a more active role in ARNY activities are encouraged to put their name forward. Again keep a look out for more details and anybody wanting more information about what is involved should contact any Committee members who will be more than happy to help.

So quite a lot going on despite the challenging weather impacting on training, until next time….
