September traditionally signals the end of the summer riding season and, in addition, this year the Yorkshire region hosted the UCI Road Cycling World Championships. The races were held on roads which are very familiar to many ARNY members as part of training routes and social rides. In addition four ARNY members; Richard Falls, Martin Docherty, Phill Bates and Phil Anderson were all working for National Escort Group at the Championships helping to make the event safe and successful.
Unfortunately, some very heavy rain at the end of the month, which saw over 50mm of rain fall in 24 hours in some areas, impacted on both the championships and the opportunities for riding in general. Despite this 8 Associates took the opportunity to have 16 training sessions throughout the month.
The final social ride of the season at the end of the month became another a victim of the wet weather and was a washout! The planned social rides have been a great success throughout the summer and have been very much appreciated by all who have attended. Many thanks go to those who hosted the 2019 rides and we look forward another series of social rides which will be planned for next year.
The group is in the process of setting up an Instagram account which can be found at @arnyrospa. If active on Instagram please take the time to follow the group. Training will continue through the winter months for those are who interested so please continue to use the Doodle Poll to indicate attendance at Saturday Training.
So that brings us to the end of a great summer riding season which has seen ARNY achieve many test passes and welcome many new members, until next time….
