Look Back at August

August was another eventful month for ARNY with lots of activity during a month which saw some great sunny weather along with a few thundery showers. The month ended with great Bank Holiday weather with record temperatures being recorded and lots of bikes, including ARNY members, on the roads.

The month saw the group achieve another two test passes with congratulations going to Richard and Cameron. The month also included some re-test successes reported on Facebook – well done to all. Training activity was impressive with 28 training sessions involving 12 Associates. The Strawberry Fields Café hosted some impressive numbers for Saturday morning training. We welcomed three new members in August and wish them all the best with their future training.

ARNY made it into this month’s RIDE Magazine with a photo of the Tutors outside the Tan Hill Inn on the way to their training weekend in Scotland. The photo was part of the ongoing #ride5000miles initiative featured in the magazine - not a difficult challenge for many ARNY members!

There was plenty of activity being reported on Facebook including Dave Thompson’s epic tour including Germany and Andy, Richard and Jeff’s preparing for their day of “roadbook carnage and confusion” at the Rallymoto Cannonball starting in Hexham.

Jeff Terry hosted a well attended social ride on Sunday 18th August which was enjoyed

by all. The last summer social ride is planned for Sunday 29th September and will be hosted by Simon Wilson. The planning is underway and Simon is working on a ride to take in the south east region with more details to follow shortly. Keep an eye out on Facebook and the website.

We have started issuing a post test questionnaire in order to gather some feedback on Associates thoughts with respect to the training they have undertaken on their way to a successful test pass, their planned future involvement with the group, if any, and any other ideas or suggestions they may have. Whilst in the early stages the feedback already received is proving to be very valuable and is much appreciated. Everybody is welcome to pass on any comments or thoughts they have directly to the Tutors, or to myself at

Finally, just a reminder to all to use the Doodle Poll to indicate attendance at Saturday Training. It is helpful to all if entries can be made by close of business on Friday as the Tutor group use the poll to try to ensure that sufficient Tutors are available for the Saturday morning.

Here’s to a good September to end the summer riding season – until next time…….
