Look Back at April

Here’s a look ‘back’ at April with ARNY.

April saw the start of the new riding season with a noticeable increase in the number of riders on the roads. The weather was a little changeable throughout the month but the outstanding weather over Easter, with some record high temperatures being recorded, was a real bonus for all in the middle of the month.

As expected there was an increase in training activity with 15 training sessions involving 14 Associates. There was some very positive feedback posted on Facebook from Associates from various training rides – which is great to see, and much appreciated. We also welcomed 3 joiners; Olivia, Jon and Ian.

The Committee and Tutors have been reviewing our training and the format of the Associate Log Book. A healthy discussion, based on the various shared experiences, has resulted in some changes and improvements. The aim is to provide some more emphasis on key knowledge areas to help Associates become more familiar with these principles in the early stages of training. The Log Book is now an even more comprehensive document that is now undergoing final preparation and will be introduced soon.

Many congratulations to Tutor Trainees Mick Findlay, David Thompson and David Atkinson who have all been signed off as Tutors. This takes the Tutor Team up to 18 which leaves the group well positioned to cope with increases in demand when required.

In other News: Steve Potts and Jeff Terry represented ARNY at the Ride the Wolds event on April 14th. A good turnout on a fairly chilly day by all accounts.

April also sees the start of the cycle racing season in earnest. ARNY has seven members who are part of the Yorkshire branch of the National Escort Group. They provided moto support to several races during April including regional races for local clubs but also with international teams.

Andy Esmond also hosted the first social ride of the new season with 13 bikes joining the “Road Narrows Ride” ride out on the 28th which, judged by the feedback, was a great success.

Simon Wilson is gauging interest for the next Social ride provisionally planned for Sunday 26th May. Please indicate your interest via Facebook.

That's about it for now. Things hitting up along with the weather, until next time....
