Well, March didn’t turn out to be quite as good as February, weather wise, but it has to be said that it wasn’t far behind and resulted in plenty of training, both on our usual Saturday and some mid-week sessions. We also tried two new venues for our training ‘end destinations’.
March saw the annual AGM, it was well attended and as usual all the committee had to resign their posts and re-stand if they so desired. Most offered to re-stand and were duly ‘sworn in’, but Phill B stood down as Marketing and media and this role will now be taken over by Dave Reeve AND Jeff Terry stood down as Social secretary and Simon Wilson will now take on the role.
All committee posts are now as follows:
Chairman – Steve Potts
Secretary – Richard Falls
Treasurer – Andy Esmond
Marketing – Dave Reeve
Training Officer – Ian Speight
Social secretary – Simon Wilson
Ordinary Members – Steve Reed and Martin Dougherty
The continued mild weather saw another busy month of training, with 8 different associates enjoying 19 training sessions between them. This compares with 5 training session by only 4 associates in March 2018!
All three new tutors are progressing well, with March seeing them complete their ‘scenario’ training successfully. They have now moved onto the ‘shadowing’ element where they will be out with associates giving input and advice under guidance of an established Tutor.
March saw us gain 3 new members, welcome to Cameron, Phil and Ian and thank you for choosing ARNY for your advanced training. We also had the first test pass of the year for ARNY, with associate Dave Reeve successfully obtaining an excellent Silver pass grade.
We ‘tested’ two new training end destinations in March, The Highwayman Café on the A64 just north of York and the Wolds Way Café on the A614 near to Market Weighton. Both received favourable reviews so we will be adding them to the list.
As mentioned last month, the Saturday ‘post-test’ social rides are now up and running with members enjoying this element two weekends in a row. Keep an eye on the doodle poll for who's attending, there will be PT next to their name, the idea being that everyone can see who is attending. You can then meet up at Strawberry Fields café, with those undergoing their training, and then have your own social ride and meet up with everyone else at the end destination. Plans are underway to set up a separate doodle poll for the social rides and events - watch this space!
Advanced Tutors Phill B, Steve P made an appearance in RiDE Magazine as they contributed to a feature about the BMW 1200RT, and Training Officer Ian S popped up in the RiDE Gear Supplement with his comments about Altberg boots.
Tutor John N rode off for a short European tour, taking in Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland etc and nearer to home Advanced Tutor Andy E and Tutor Richard F took part in some off-road rallies, one in Wales and another around Kielder forest.
Well, that just about sums up March, much busier than last year and lots going on in general, until next time…..
