Well, September brought us another great month of weather meaning another busy month for ARNY.
The Tutors Team conducted 20 training sessions across the month involving 10 different members with lots of miles and smiles covered.
Membership continues to grow, with three new members joining us in September; a warm welcome to Darren S, Bill B, and Richard S. I look forward to seeing you all at some point in the future.
September also saw 2 members gain new qualifications. Mark Kelk and Denise Rose had both taken their tests as ARNY members and both obtained Gold grades. Unfortunately, ARNY didn’t have vacancies on our Tutor Team at the relevant time but following them joining our neighbouring RoSPA group (E-YARD), Mark has just qualified as a Group Tutor and Denise as an Advanced Tutor; congratulations to them both.
The month started with Marketing Officer Phill Bates working as a motorcycle safety marshall on the Tour of Britain in his role as part of the National Escort Group. Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and the rest were escorted safely for the 8 day event covering 2,500 miles of racing and transfers.
On 8th Sept, ARNY Training Officer Ian Speight represented ARNY when he assisted Humberside Police to deliver their BikeSafe event. The event ran from Beverley with four Police riders and six IAM/RoSPA Tutors. The weather stayed kind and everyone seemed to really enjoy the day and all the hints and tips they picked up.
On the Social front, you may remember that last month it was mentioned that Tutors Andy, Jeff and Richard, along with member Lance, were heading to Spain and Portugal to enjoy some more ‘off roading’. Well they’ve been and all returned unscathed….or so they tell us! These boys are really starting to rack up the off-road trips and are learning some new bike handling skills. Tutor Paul Crane has also been to ‘foreign climes’ when he headed off to the Pyrenees and a little closer to home, Ian Speight had a ‘mini tour’ of the Dales with a long weekend away.
Two Tutors had new bike days. Tutors Simon W and Adam A spent some of their hard earned on new metal; Simon adding a BMW S1000R to his garage and Adam a KTM 790. Watch out for them at training soon, they’ll be the ones with enormous grins!
And finally, just a reminder about our ‘Post Test’ group. As mentioned last month, some members who had passed their test asked if there was a way to have social contact with new and other current members undergoing their training. It was suggested that a Saturday Post Test group be formed and organised by those members who have passed their tests. The idea being, they would come to the café on a Saturday morning, have a cuppa and a catch up and then when training starts, they would head off for their own ride with a view to meeting the training group at the end destination for further socialising over another brew. Those post-test riders who want to join in merely add their name to the Doodle poll with the letters PT (post-test) after their name to let everyone else know who and how many are coming for the social ride aspect. It is still early days but we have had some interest so we will be running the idea into next year to see how things go.
Well that’s about it for now, hope enjoyed the catch up, ride safe everyone.
